This doesnt mean that you sacrifice quality and basic editing in the process of going simpler but it may mean you trade in some of those $10 words for $5 words and cut that 1,000 word piece to 2-500 word pieces instead. Some writers are better at producing offline content and cant shift to the online methods of successful content. Then there are some who can rake in the readers online but couldnt hack it at all in the offline publishing world. Some gifted writers (or well trained writers) can learn to do both. The latter requires being able to shift back and forth according to which venue you are writing for. Ultimately, understanding the difference will make a world of difference in your writing career.
With much wringing of hands and agitation, the Common Core Standards entered the scene. Very much like the "national" standards, these act as a guide, a format so that teachers in Colorado teach algebraic computation requirements and so do those in Alabama and New York. If we even want to discuss and then live a level playing field, common expectations for teaching and learning are critical. Guidelines and techniques are available, but as far as I know no school or district has created a verbatim script that teachers must follow. Astute teachers also recognize that Sally is ready for Step B while Tommy is off and running on Step D. And Susie needs enrichment to support her as she learns and masters difficult concepts. Thanks to their herculean efforts, they were finally able to cajole her into taking a few days off without revealing the real reasons for going. So far, so good. Less than a week later, she and her daughter boarded a flight to Hollywood, while I took a different plane out of JFK, several hundred miles away. When I arrived at the hotel in California, I was shocked to learn that they were staying in a room only one floor above me! With the attention span of a gnat, I decided to memorize a Bible verse which had caught my eye as a car with a personalized license plate drove by. I was not familiar with the verse, "Rom. 15:13." I counted the number of words in the verse, Romans 15:13, thirty-one words to be exact. "Not too many words; quick to write; at least it would keep my hands busy." I purchased a journal in the hospital gift shop and returned to the intensive care waiting room. I began writing the verse over and over again.
