We end with an "anxiety check." The kids tell me they feel more comfortable now and that maybe puberty class isnt so bad after all. Some even say its pretty cool. Day 2 We split the class into gender groups and meet with each separately. What happens next is always amazing to witness and its consistent. A portion of our time is spent talking about periods for the girls and erections and ejaculation for the boys. Even the kids who were obviously uncomfortable on Day 1 are interested and engaged. The kids ask great questions and eagerly listen to the answers. Once their curiosity about their own bodies is satisfied, they begin asking more specific questions about the changes that the opposite gender goes through.
In the past, it was common to visit science fairs where the projects were highly predictable. While the types of experiments evolved over time, the over-all themes tended to remain relatively constant. In recent years, that has started to change. Innovative teaching coupled with easier access to computers and sophisticated materials have allowed students to develop projects that are proving to be more cutting edge than ever seen in the past. Rapid advancement in sciences are quickly transmitted to schools through the use of computers. Increasingly savvy students quickly assimilate the knowledge and use it to develop truly unique experiments.
Her fathers decision to educate sons rather than invest in a daughter who would eventually marry ended mothers future in the academic world. She, however, had acquired an education that would jumpstart my learning experience. Mother used to prepare a small portion of the ground outside the mud structure we called our house and used it as blackboard or writing pad to teach me A-B-Cs, 1-2-3s, and simple words. If there was wind, class was cancelled. If it rained, it was an holiday. She taught me stories and listened to my childish stories. But in that basic existence, mother passed on to me what I now do in my calling as speaker, writer and seminar leader.

Colors, tiles and wall textures throughout the campus express the African-American and Mexican-American cultures of the neighborhood surrounding this San Antonio school. "This school is truly rich in history. Were honoring the neighborhood in what it is now and yet honoring where this school has come from," Herr-Zepeda added.
I have a friend who is an architect. Its a good career for him. He is skillful at what he does, he enjoys the work, and he cant see himself in another field. His degrees are all from Ivy League institutions and in almost every way, hes the sort of person that gets held up as a role model for students, especially students who dont like math and need a reason to study the subject. The irony is that he doesnt particularly like math, doesnt consider himself to be good at the subject, and almost didnt follow through on his dream of becoming an architect because he was alarmed by the frequent declarations of math teachers that architecture is a profession that uses a lot of math.
