Marilyn Burns, a well known math expert, has been addresses math anxiety since 1970 with her first book, "I Hate Mathematics" right through to her more current book, "Math; Facing an American Phobia" 1998. The latter book speaks to math anxiety as a growing phenomenon. And more recently "Math for the Anxious" by Rosanne Proga, copyrighted 2005 also is very clear about math anxiety and its causes. Of course, all this math anxiety is good; at least it is for the math textbook industry. Math anxiety sells math textbooks. Parents are concerned that their children learn math better than they did. Teachers are calling for a better way to teach math. This is great news for the math textbook companies. For you and me, this is bad news.
Simple answer.as much as we are the same, we are different. And thats a really cool thing! If we can learn how to appreciate the differences and work with them instead of against them, we will much happier, more connected and more productive. We tie school policies into the conversation, set some expectations about limits and boundaries on behavior at school and help the kids identify their adult support systems for any questions or situations they may need help with. I sometimes get challenged by parents and teachers about covering this topic in mixed gender groups. My answer is always the same. Its important to begin healthy communication and understanding about gender differences early on in the process. Its a set up for healthy and effective communication and mutual respect over the life span. Another issue is the impact of technology on how and when kids are developing relationships today as well as the kinds of information they have available at their fingertips. This makes it even more necessary to teach skills and boundaries at this age.
6th grade science projects are not expected to be original; it is perfectly okay to do an experiment that has been done before. Some schools start doing science fairs in sixth grade, but they are not usually too competitive as their purpose is really to get the students interested. The judges simply want to see that you have put the effort into your project and made up a nice presentation for it. Still, there are endless ideas of topics you can pick. One fun idea for 6th grade science projects is to see how well people can identify different smells when blind folded. This project is fairly simple. All you need is a blindfold and a few items with different smells. A few ideas might be vanilla, cinnamon, coffee beans, vinegar, and so on. There are many, many different things you can use. To do this project, you will need a volunteer or two. It would be a good idea to make up a chart in advance so you can record your results. Blindfold your volunteer and put each scent under their nose one at a time, and record whether or not they were able to identify what the scent was. Originality is not the key factor here at this age. The judges just want to see that you are capable of performing an experiment on your own, writing up a report on it and presenting your finding in an organized, easy to understand way. There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing an experiment that has already been done, as long as you try to make it your own.
Minding the poor-I can never recall a day mother was not helping someone in need. We had our meals with strangers and relatives in even worse condition than we were. She was always giving, if not food to the hungry, it was her handbag or clothes to those who wanted to venture beyond our village. Having a rare kind of hope-There is a hope that can only come where logical reasoning ends. In basic surveys that I conduct in my seminars, I have found that the most feared experience by parents is the death of their child. Mother lost three sons and two daughters. Yet she still has peace of mind and hope for a better tomorrow.
Every year students and parents alike become involved in school science projects. From the simplest projects with only the most basic materials to highly complex experiments, all projects should be considered important to the education of the students. Generally speaking, students at the second grade level are not expected to produce projects with the sophistication that might be expected at the 6th grade or 7th grade, but all project content should be original in nature. While many parents are able to provide their students with costly materials to construct their projects, other parents do not have that capability. That may seem unfair, but it should also be noted that many projects can be constructed with low cost or even free materials. Some school districts have the capability to provide students with materials for their school science projects. If that option is not available, local businesses may be encouraged to participate by providing money or materials. The central idea should be that no student be denied the option of being involved because of financial concerns.

If you child didnt fully understand the first time they watched an online tutorial, they can watch it over and over again. Many online learning environments have examples that tutors will go through and also give you some example to go through at your own pace, so that you can complement your childs learning. For many parents, having access to an online learning system to help their child with math is a lot more cost-effective than getting a personal math tutor.
