Reader Rabbit Personalized second grade features A.D.A.P.T. Learning Technology which is a system that is dynamic in its ability to make adjustments to the program in order to conform with the kids abilities as they grow. This means that their learning is bound to be ever stimulating, and not at one time frustrating, simply because the kids will be enjoying themselves tremendously, even as they face new challenges in the learning environment on a daily basis. A.D.A.P.T. Learning Technology is an acronym that stands for A. Assesses Abilities, D. Develop Skills, A. Adjusts Levels, P. Provides Help, T. Track Progress. It is with this technology that the kid is able to acquire the necessary skills in math, science, grammar and problem-solving skills.
For the first few days, really not much transpired at all. The ignored rice was the first to get a little dot of black mold and then each of the others followed soon after. However we continued in our curious quest. All of a sudden, on day four, the ignored rice took a distinctive turn and a gray spider web like mold started to grow all over it and up the sides of the jar. Over the next few days it made rapid progress - we documented with pictures and watched the other two with excited anticipation. After a few more days rice in each of the other two jars started to develop distinctive characteristics. The rice that had been the recipient of the insults became dotted with black and covered with a rather pointed and spiked looking whitish/gray mold, while the loved and cared for rice started to turn pink!! I kid you not - this trend was documented with pictures and remained throughout the science fair display at the school.
After seeing how meditation, carpet and couches have transformed my friends classroom, I wonder if this new thinking really works and what other kinds of experiments in education can make a difference. An Observation in Classroom Comfort I went in to watch a friend teach a lesson this week after hearing all summer about his plans to make his 9th grade classroom less intimidating and more student friendly. When I walked in students were sitting in a circle, some on a polka dotted carpet reminiscent of a 2nd grade, about to begin a one minute silent breathing exercise before starting the days work. Students were encouraged to block out all thoughts and just concentrate on inhaling and exhaling through their nose. I was impressed with how seriously they all took it. A freshman whom I had seen escorted out of an all school assembly for cursing out a dean, was now calmly concentrating on his breathing.
Tip #5 - Use Speech Recognition. Many computers come with Speech Recognition software ready to be installed. You can set it up for free and if you have a child who learns verbally, they might like try using the spelling feature so they dont have to type. As you tell them the words, they would spell them into the microphone as they are typed onto the screen. For Microsoft users, you go to Start > Control Panel > Speech Recognition Options to set up the program. 2nd grade spelling words are usually harder and more complex than first grade. By trying a few of the tips above, you can help your child learn his spelling words in no time. Mix it up a little so your kids dont get bored and try to have fun. Spelling can build confidence in reading and writing so take some time to practice with your children.
So after a prospect passes through the first part of the funnel, by responding to your postcard and signing up on your website, you now need to set up an "autoresponder" to send these prospects information and periodic updates. An "autoresponder" is a software system (my 4 year old can use it!) that allows you to email these prospects automatically. You can write a sequence of emails and have them sent to your prospects on the days and times you choose. In these emails, you can continue to give them valuable info, advice and tips but also direct them to the next step in the funnel; talking or meeting with you. For buyers, you could mention that they can email you or call for a free home tour. For sellers, you can let them know to email or call you for a free market analysis.
As a parent it is always exciting to see children progress to another grade. There are a number of summer bridge activities that a child can take part in to make sure they are ready for 2nd grade. These range from direct learning activities such as worksheets or practicing skills online to teaching opportunities in the real world. Reading is very important to a childs educational development. Reading a book with your child on a daily basis can create enjoyable memories that will foster a lifelong love of learning. Reading helps to build vocabulary and spelling skills as well. Help your child select books from the public library on a weekly basis. Sign up for a summer reading program if your local library has one as well. Make sure your child is involved in the selection process for best results and get some books for yourself to act as a role model for your child.
