After seeing how meditation, carpet and couches have transformed my friends classroom, I wonder if this new thinking really works and what other kinds of experiments in education can make a difference. An Observation in Classroom Comfort I went in to watch a friend teach a lesson this week after hearing all summer about his plans to make his 9th grade classroom less intimidating and more student friendly. When I walked in students were sitting in a circle, some on a polka dotted carpet reminiscent of a 2nd grade, about to begin a one minute silent breathing exercise before starting the days work. Students were encouraged to block out all thoughts and just concentrate on inhaling and exhaling through their nose. I was impressed with how seriously they all took it. A freshman whom I had seen escorted out of an all school assembly for cursing out a dean, was now calmly concentrating on his breathing.
Second grade is an exciting time for children. They learn crucial skills in math and reading that will serve as the foundations for the next school year and beyond. Unfortunately, many children start to fall behind their peers and classmates when they reach the second grade. Thankfully, getting 2nd grade help for your child is easier than ever. By being involved in their education now, youll help inspire a lifelong love of learning and an enthusiasm in the subjects that your child previously struggled in. Does Your Child Show These Symptoms of Needing Help? Many children wont admit that theyre having trouble in school. Thats why most parents and caregivers dont realize theres a problem until its too late to seek out 2nd grade help. If your child starts to show less and less interest in school, doesnt complete their homework, or has brought home a note from the teacher or principal - its time to get them the tutoring they need before things get worse. Oftentimes, children dont know how to express that they dont understand something, so they act out or become disruptive in class. Fortunately, by stepping in early, parents and caregivers can intervene and help their child overcome these issues and improve in challenging areas.
Lesson plans always take a lot of time and dedication to put together. Each teacher has their own method to creating the perfect lesson plan in 2nd grade. One thing every teacher has in common is the variety that must be put into the plan. Children get bored when the same methods are used over and over again, especially young children in 2nd grade. Children need variety, including hands-on teaching, worksheets and even computer time. Each child has a different method of learning, which is why it is important for teachers to include variety in their 2nd grade lesson plan. Hands-On Learning Kids love to get their hands into things. Whether you are planning a science experiment or teaching a new math concept, giving children the ability to use their hands to learn gives them another view on the topic. Using more than one sense allows children to really get into what they are learning. Even kids who do not require hands-on techniques to understand a topic will enjoy the hands-on learning you provide.
Stay on Track with Grade-Level Objectives Youll also want to make sure that the 2nd grade help program you choose isnt a computer game masquerading as an "educational tool". Rather, the program should conform to nationwide and current educational objectives, so that you can be sure your child is learning precisely what they need to know at their current grade level, and nothing too easy or too advanced for their current skills. This kind of attention to detail is what sets the best 2nd grade help programs ahead of the competition while rewarding children for learning and building on what they know. By taking the time now to help them improve their education, youll make sure that your child is learning alongside their peers while hitting all the academic milestones they need to move confidently through elementary school and beyond. Its a small investment that can lead to a brighter future - and it starts with you.
To create the atmosphere of a true scientific experiment, we took 3 jars and sterilized them to make sure they were equally clean environments. We took a cup of freshly cooked rice and apportioned it equally between the 3 jars then immediately sealed them. The first jar was promptly placed on top of the refrigerator and forgotten about, the second was sadly labeled you fool, and the final jar was labeled with the words thank you. For the next week and a half we proceeded to ignore the first jar (other than to document our daily observations); we yelled nasty insults at the contents of the second jar and cooed loving sentiments each day toward the lucky rice in the third jar.
Many children start to show weaknesses in mathematics during the 2nd grade, as many classrooms introduce fractions, place values and other potentially difficult concepts. Addition and multiplication skills are also reinforced throughout the year, and if your child is struggling, he or she will likely continue to struggle without some help. Problems usually become evident towards the middle of the school year, as this is usually when children start falling behind and when new concepts are typically introduced. Fortunately, parents can help kids understand and perform 2nd grade math skills with some appropriate at-home practice.
