Fencing - Physical Chess. The cliches surrounding the sport highlight the fact that successful fencers are very smart people. Is this the result of smart people fencing, or that fencing makes people smarter?Recent studies are showing that the latter is true, so head out to the fencing salle, learn some moves, and boost your brainpower! The science is in: physical activity boosts your brainpower. Intuitively, it seems natural that physical fitness would be linked to sharper intelligence, and according to a recent presentation at the 57th Annual Meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), exercise makes you smarter. This is good news for everyone, but particularly so for kids in school looking to make the grade.
The long-view is not only that young people will engage in physical exercise to improve brain function in school, but also that those children will grow into adults that also enjoy physical exercise. With people living longer and longer, dementia and Alzheimers disease are greater concerns than theyve ever been. Those who engage in regular physical exercise are less likely to develop symptoms of Alzheimers - a real incentive to get active and stay active. Fencing is not just a sport for the young. Indeed, it is a unique sport that is accessible by all. Not all parents have the resources or the desire to get their kids involved in sports. Some parents dont think beyond the football-baseball-soccer triad. If youre an adult who longs to try fencing, there is no time like the present to get started. The potential for sharpened mental acuity is just one of the benefits youll enjoy as you learn the basics of this fascinating sport.
3rd grade science fair projects are a lot of fun because at this age children are eager to explore the world around them and find out how things work. They are constantly wanting to know the answer to the question "What happens if I do this..." and therefore they will likely come up with many different experiments theyd like to try. It may be difficult to decide on just one! At this age they have a short attention span though, so the projects must be simple, fun and fairly short. There are many, many different project ideas for this age group such as; do all the children in their class have the same size hands and the same size feet as each other? They can research this by tracing the other childrens hands and feet on a piece of paper and comparing them to each other.
If encouraged from a young age, children will naturally find ways and means to experiment with questions that interest them. A science fair project will always be well performed if the child is interested in the topic. There are also different ways of doing 3rd grade science fair projects. By experiment or investigation is the most common type of project. An example of this type of project would be if frozen candles burn as well as candles at room temperature. This is a wonderful way for children to learn, because they are able to actually see how things, exposed to various elements, cause different reactions. A child could demonstrate his 3rd grade science fair project by re-testing experiments that have already been done. The child could even do additional experimentation to make the project more interesting. A project could also involve research where the relevant information is collected and the answer to the question is presented.
Third grade math can be difficult for some children, as theyre expected to draw upon their experience from K-2 to tackle relatively complex math problems including multiplication and division. As a parent, you should work with your child during this crucial period in his or her education, as struggling kids will undoubtedly continue to struggle unless they receive encouragement, differentiated instruction and plenty of practice. Common Problems That 3rd Graders Have with Math Before tackling your childs math problems, its helpful to understand the curriculum and why certain types of math lessons are difficult for young children. 3rd grade math curriculum typically includes multiplication and division, which children often struggle with. Kids will have especially pronounced problems when multiplying and dividing if theyve had problems with addition and subtraction in the past or if they simply havent spent much time practicing these basic skills. Children may also have trouble seeing the patterns in multiplication tables, which will make it much more difficult for them to keep up with their classmates. Multiplication tables can be difficult to approach and kids who understand the relationship between division and multiplication will be able to absorb lessons much more easily.
Fencing is already a sport associated with intellectualism, often called "physical chess" by coaches, fencers, and fans. Participation in the this sport requires fitness and concentration, a powerhouse duo when it comes to increasing brainpower. The study presented at the ACSM Meeting found that among 266 undergraduates, those who exercised vigorously for at least 20 minutes per day had higher grade point averages than those who did not. This isnt the only study showing that physical fitness is linked to greater success in school, and the effect is not limited to college students. Dr. Charles H. Hillman, an Associate Professor at the University of Illinois found that among 259 Illinois 3rd and 5th graders, those in the best physical shape also scored highest on math and reading in standardized testing.
