Identify your childs interest: This is the most important consideration to make when planning to select 4th grade science projects. Just like an adult, every child has a will power and he or she will perform best if their interest is considered when making a choice of the project. It is therefore advised that you start by observing your childs interest and invest on projects that develop the interest. For example, if the child loves watching the heavenly bodies such as stars and moons, then you should provide projects that will develop this interest. 2. Discuss with your child on the choice of project: Once you have identified an area of interest, engage the child in choosing which project. Even when you have observed the interest of your child, he or she may be more interested in an area that they have not explored. Therefore involve the child in making the decision on which project to implement. Dont overlook this. Choose from natural events or items: The natural processes, events and items or beings illicit lots of creativity. This is because of the complexion that they present. They are often inter-linked and have an outstanding color displays. The favorite for 4th grade science projects are volcanoes, rivers, birds, reptiles and others. However, you need to be aware of the difference in culture and geographical applications of the 4th grade science projects.

Some other ideas also include finding out what kinds of materials magnets can go through such as felt paper, newspaper, construction paper, and an experiment to see if ants can find their way back to their ant hill if you move them a distance away. Another nice thing about science projects for this age group is that theres not a lot of materials involved and the results are usually able to be seen if not right away, then very soon after the project has been started. Projects like this are great for fourth graders because it makes learning fun and they can do most of it on their own which gives them a great sense of accomplishment.

My daughters went to two different elementary schools due to a move. One of the schools was 1st-3rd grade on one side of the property and 4th and 5th grade on the other side of the property with two completely different playgrounds. Prior to 4th grade beginning we made a point of visiting the school and exploring the "other side." Junior high school and senior high school both offer larger campuses with the changing of classrooms every hour throughout the day. Thankfully, here in my town, both schools offer the kids their schedules at least a week before school starts. We can then walk their schedule many times to make sure they are comfortable and they can remember the order of their classes. Often, the kids who had not pre-visited were late to classes the first week, couldnt find classrooms, and were generally much more stressed than the kids who made those pre-visits and were comfortable with where they were going.

Students may have ideas about their future vocation. They may want to be an astronaut or super-star in sports. As they become a bit more realistic, the choices they have will depend heavily on their education. In considering future employment, its common to overlook the importance of math competency. Almost every good job requires adequate math skills. Some demand advanced math competence. These include any branch of medicine, most managerial positions, engineers, lab technicians, pilots, construction workers, graphic designers, surveyors, accountants, bookkeepers, teachers, many retail jobs, most government jobs, and the list goes on and on. Parents and young students may not realize the importance of early mastery of math fundamentals. Mathematics is a subject that builds on prior knowledge. Once you fall behind, math becomes drudgery and requires more time to complete homework assignments. It is wrong to assume that since electronic calculators can do math computations quickly, memorization of basic facts doesnt really matter anymore. Without basic fact fluency, frustration levels will only increase.

Once you have that information, work backwards. Assume that the skills and knowledge levels will be in place by the end of the year, and then determine when you will need to build each skill into the academic year. Depending on the subject you teach, this will take different forms, but dont feel "married" to the scope and sequence of the textbooks suggested order. Select the points that certain skills need to be mastered, and then work backwards to build in the lessons and topics that will build those skills in or that knowledge base at the right time. You may be surprised to find that in some cases, the suggested order of the textbook can be adjusted to make your lesson plans flow more smoothly in your school for your specific classroom and for the strengths and weaknesses of the specific class you teach.

The writing standards also provide four sections of emphasis: text types and purposes, production and distribution of writing, research, as well as the variety of writing. Students are asked to write to persuade, to inform or explain and also to detail a narrative of real or imagined events. They go through the writing process to produce clear and competent writing, while using the technology throughout. They should be able to conduct research to collect relevant information. Its important that they evaluate the credibility of sources, and also support their resulting ideas with specific citations.
