When determining what to select for 5th grade science projects, there are several factors that should be considered. What are the teaching objectives? Is the project practical for this age group? What is the cost factor involved? Is the project simple enough for students in this age group to complete successfully and learn from? If the project is to be entered into a science fair, is it portable? Perhaps most importantly, will the student have fun completing the project? The cost factor must be kept to a level that the student or the students parents can easily afford. Some schools may have scholarships available, but not all will. In high poverty areas this is especially important, so take advantage of any financial aid that is available. Being eliminated from competition based on the lack of financial ability may teach the student a lesson, but not the desired one. Lessons learned at this age will affect the students future attitude toward learning. Completing 5th grade science projects can enhance a students curiosity and willingness to learn in later grades. Relatively simple projects relating to physics principles or global warming might well foster an interest in more advanced projects later.
You are standing at a pivotal crossroads once again in your life, not unlike the time frame during your 10th to 11th year. What year was it when you were 10-11 years old? What was the decidedly prominent focus occurring in the local, national, and worlds news? This information can be found on the internet should you be so inclined, interested and vested enough to search for it. What you turn over from the soil of discontent will prove to be surprising and relevant. The undisputed fact that everything is connected shows its true light during this dark search. It was during this phase of your individual life, that an element of unexpressed talent can be recovered. You laughed a lot, felt uninhibited and free as you never had before or since.
Understanding of elements of energy such as heat: This is a project that is designed to help a child to understand the various forms of energy. A good example is to determine how much heat is required to heat a very cold or hot bean. Place the bean seed in the deep freezer for 10 hours, another bean seed in the refrigerator, another under room temperature and another pre-heated for 2 hours. Cook all the seeds in a microwave for about 5 minutes and determine their levels hardness. The one that remains harder would be because it needs more heat to cook it. Therefore energy is transferred from one form to another.
Fluids: Understanding the dynamics of fluids develops an interest in such fields such as marine studies, chemistry and even biology. 5th grade science projects such as those that target water fluidity or mercury are good to illustrate the various characteristics of the fluids. The shapes that the various fluids would take when in a tube in a tube that is placed on level provides good insight into the characteristic of fluids and therefore how they can be used in daily life. Fluids such as mercury that have a concave shape would be sued differently from water that has convex shape.· Effect of light: A common experiment is that of determining how much light can be focused to provide brighter or more powerful view. The use of the concave lenses in microscopes is an example. Various concave mirrors can be arranged to provide a large beam of light that can be used to observe very minute organisms, or to do laser surgery. This can be easily be done for 5th grade science projects.
5th grade science projects are a little more involved than previous years, and are generally done by the students with little help from their teachers or parents. They may need some guidance along the way, but most of the work should be done by the student. Fifth grade students are old enough to handle the responsibility of choosing a topic, asking a question and experimenting to find the answer to their question. It can be a lot of fun for parents and teachers as well as the students. This is really the first year they will be coming up with the ideas and doing the work themselves, so it is quite interesting to see what sort of projects they will choose.

The determinedly ruthless soul demands voluntary surrendered expression of your latent gifts and will not be refused.
