Just find out from their school which subjects they perform best in, and find out who the teacher is, then see if the majority of the classes that they perform best in have male or female teachers. You could just ask your child, but often they just pick the gender that they think they get away with doing the least work with. Now that you have that sorted out, and can start to look for applicants, youll need to know about the qualifications to be looking out for. When looking at qualifications for your 6th grade math tutor, the applicants should be at least an undergraduate, or someone with a teaching degree.

After their set, the 7th grade took the stage. They played more difficult music, had fewer missed notes and longer stretches that they played in unison. You could hear the difference a lot more hours of hard work made. Next up was the 8th grade. After 3 years of playing together, they played more complex arrangements and sounded ready to move on to the high school level. The growth from 6th to 7th to 8th grade was an interesting process to observe. So, what does this have to do with business? When we started our personal property inventory service years ago, we missed a lot of beats. We (my husband and I) werent often in sync with each other and had to start over many times while creating our processes and procedures. The same when we created our turnkey business package (a business to help others start their own personal property inventory business). Do-overs were the norm for a while. But now, after practicing, working together, stretching ourselves into bigger and better, we play a pretty sweet tune.

We play a rendition of childhood game, Pin the Tail on the Donkey, where I ask the kids to tape index cards containing the changes that happen during puberty on the appropriate gender symbol. Yes, more giggly! We then move on to basic anatomy and physiology, including an overview of the brain, glands, the pituitary gland, hormones, testosterone and estrogen, followed a discussion of the sperm, the egg, menstrual periods, wet dreams and ejaculation. The giggly is over, replaced with an occasional exclamation "Ewwwww, thats gross!" These outbursts are consistently normalized by reinforcement that the body is an amazingly intelligent and complex machine; that the miracle of life is indeed a miracle; and that each child in the room is, in fact, a miracle. We take some time for questions and then move on to an introduction to the emotional changes that happen during puberty as a set up for our next class.

Who actually uses advanced math in their everyday lives? Well, students do. This might seem to be obvious, but it is worth pointing out that doing well on the SAT or ACT requires a fair amount of algebra and geometry. (These subjects arent really advanced math, but they are advanced compared the math that many adults use.) These tests give high school math a certain amount of practical importance, even for people who plan on majoring in liberal arts and entering a mathematics-free profession. Engineers, many kinds of scientist (both pure and applied), computer programmers, and actuaries are a few examples of people that actually do use a great deal of math. There are plenty of other math-intensive careers, but the truth is, most people who dont want to do trigonometry, calculus, or statistics as adults will never be held back by that preference.

We end with an "anxiety check." The kids tell me they feel more comfortable now and that maybe puberty class isnt so bad after all. Some even say its pretty cool. Day 2 We split the class into gender groups and meet with each separately. What happens next is always amazing to witness and its consistent. A portion of our time is spent talking about periods for the girls and erections and ejaculation for the boys. Even the kids who were obviously uncomfortable on Day 1 are interested and engaged. The kids ask great questions and eagerly listen to the answers. Once their curiosity about their own bodies is satisfied, they begin asking more specific questions about the changes that the opposite gender goes through.

Her fathers decision to educate sons rather than invest in a daughter who would eventually marry ended mothers future in the academic world. She, however, had acquired an education that would jumpstart my learning experience. Mother used to prepare a small portion of the ground outside the mud structure we called our house and used it as blackboard or writing pad to teach me A-B-Cs, 1-2-3s, and simple words. If there was wind, class was cancelled. If it rained, it was an holiday. She taught me stories and listened to my childish stories. But in that basic existence, mother passed on to me what I now do in my calling as speaker, writer and seminar leader.
