Custom Individualized Instruction In an ideal world, every student would be able to receive one-on-on instruction to optimize his or her learning experience. However, this is rarely possible in a modern classroom setting where there can be over twenty students and only one teacher with no aids or helpers on hand. This high ratio of students to teachers can make teaching 2nd grade math even more difficult. But online math games are designed to move at the personal pace of each child who plays. Kids who need to go back and review ideas from kindergarten and first grade are free to do so, while others who are ready to tackle multi-digit addition and subtraction problems will find them presented in a vibrant setting that is both entertaining and engaging. In this way, teachers can present individualized instruction even when they arent able to personally work with every student in the class.
Lesson plans always take a lot of time and dedication to put together. Each teacher has their own method to creating the perfect lesson plan in 2nd grade. One thing every teacher has in common is the variety that must be put into the plan. Children get bored when the same methods are used over and over again, especially young children in 2nd grade. Children need variety, including hands-on teaching, worksheets and even computer time. Each child has a different method of learning, which is why it is important for teachers to include variety in their 2nd grade lesson plan. Hands-On Learning Kids love to get their hands into things. Whether you are planning a science experiment or teaching a new math concept, giving children the ability to use their hands to learn gives them another view on the topic. Using more than one sense allows children to really get into what they are learning. Even kids who do not require hands-on techniques to understand a topic will enjoy the hands-on learning you provide.
Experiments in Education As a relatively new teacher, I sense the entire education system has been and will continue to be going through various experiments in the coming decade particularly in poor urban neighborhoods. A classmate of mine just started working at an elementary school with a new experimental model - class size, 60; number of teachers, 4 Lessons are taught to every kindergartner and 1st grader in three different languages and the teachers dont get any breaks. Oh, and the master teacher on each grade level makes six figures but hasnt been in the system 22 years. I welcome the change and admire educators like my friend and classmate who are willing to go for it, while kidding themselves about the potential to fail. As I left his class, I couldnt help but wonder if they will learn any better, being comfortable. They may be less likely to cut the class but algebra on a couch with nature sounds playing in the background is still algebra. We have to be careful not to forget that people have been working on the issue of improving public education since public education has been around and that we dont need to create everything from scratch. On the other hand, to see significant results, we need significant change which may challenge much of what we consider education today.
Tip #5 - Use Speech Recognition. Many computers come with Speech Recognition software ready to be installed. You can set it up for free and if you have a child who learns verbally, they might like try using the spelling feature so they dont have to type. As you tell them the words, they would spell them into the microphone as they are typed onto the screen. For Microsoft users, you go to Start > Control Panel > Speech Recognition Options to set up the program. 2nd grade spelling words are usually harder and more complex than first grade. By trying a few of the tips above, you can help your child learn his spelling words in no time. Mix it up a little so your kids dont get bored and try to have fun. Spelling can build confidence in reading and writing so take some time to practice with your children.
Monitoring Your Childs Progress If youre looking for an active way to get involved with your childs 2nd grade math lessons, you should make sure that youre using appropriate tools. Youll have to find an effective means of charting your childs progress over the course of the year to mark improvements and to spot any future math problems before they have time to really develop. You can do this at home by using 2nd grade math software to help your child regularly practice basic math skills. There are a number of programs that can help you do this, and by tracking the number of correct and incorrect answers that your child submits, these programs create effective learning charts that you can use to guide your at-home lessons. Online games are particularly effective, as they can be used from both home and school computers.
Parents and guardians, and whoever is in charge will also enjoy themselves by having fun, even as they lend a hand to their second graders in the areas of writing reading, math, spelling and even science, by using the educational software and computer games for kids. This software is personalized to make a second grader build an entire year of skills. Being a 2 CD-ROM Set that boasts of a Learning Center disc that is personalized, a parent is able to see every participants progress on any given program which is using the Companys A.D.A.P.T. Learning Technology. It is possible for them to print out customized workbooks, activities, and reward certificates for every single participant in regard to information on their progress.
